Manda Bay

Manda Bay

Manda Bay is located on the North western tip of Manda Island, one of the many unspoiled, idyllic islands of the Lamu archipelago. An exclusive resort, Manda Bay offers relaxation, water sports, dhow safaris, scenic flights and luxurious pampering throughout your stay.

There is a games room overlooking the sea with a pool table, darts and table tennis. Surrounded by miles of soft white sand, Manda Bay is the perfect retreat for families and honeymooners.

Sixteen spacious cottages line the beach overlooking the calm waters of Manda Bay. It's beautiful, the food is extremely good, the beach is quiet, the company fun and hospitable.

The cottages are in keeping with the local landscape and were constructed using local materials. All of the cottages have large ceiling fans, en-suite bathrooms, and their own private veranda’s overlooking the Indian Ocean. There is a central dining room and bar area featuring locally crafted Lamu furniture. Overlooking the bay, a separate lounge area provides the perfect place for unwinding over an ocean sundowner.

A wide choice of water sports are on offer including windsurfing, kayaking, boat trips, snorkeling and just about everything else related to the ocean. The fishing – both reef and deep sea – in the Lamu / Kiwayu waters is famous worldwide both for its variety and for the quantity of sport fish caught. Striped, Black and Blue Marlin, Sailfish and many other game fish migrate through these waters in abundance. The sailfish season starts in October through to April. The marlin season is February and March. Tuna, Dorada, Wahoo, Giant Trevally and Kingfish are abundant all year round.

Dhow Safari - One of the best ways to explore this incredible archipelago is under sail on Utamaduni, the beautiful 62 foot sailing dhow. Utamaduni was built by Lamu’s master-boat builders in the time-honoured style of the East African coast. She is one of the biggest dhows now operating on the Kenyan coast. The guests of Manda Bay sail out for lavish seafood lunches with a fully stocked bar to the snorkeling site or a sand bank in the bay at mid-day or sets sail in the early evening for cocktails, returning in time for dinner at the lodge.

Manda bay is a water sports paradise. Its sheltered mangrove creek and the calm waters are ideal for water skiing. Guests can ski at high tide, yet just outside the creek there is generally enough breeze for sailing, wind-surfing and kite-surfing.

Scenic flights - Air Lamu operates out of our own private airstrip on Manda Bay, and offer a range of scenic flights across this stunning region of Kenya. This choice of aircraft allows us to offer a variety of excursions inland exploring the wilderness areas around this northern Coastline. It is a thrilling trip to see hippos and crocodiles in their masses on the Tana River delta and enormous herds of cape buffalo, heartebeast, zebra, waterbuck, giraffe and warthogs on Amu and Nairobi Ranch, plus beautiful coastline with its turquoise colors and mangrove forests, sand dunes and salt pans and thick indigenous forest.
