Safaris and Expeditions promote some of the best African safari destinations, facilities and itineraries. We provide you with a service free of charge and earn a living from commissions paid to us by safari operators and lodges and by guiding trips in Tanzania.

Safaris & Expeditions is headed by Tom Schovsbo, whose experience of safaris started when he moved to Tanzania in 1970 as a 5 year old. Since then, safaris have been a way of life, with countless expeditions into the bush, roaming throughout Kenya and Tanzania in the 1970's and 1980's. The unfenced wilderness on the family doorstep on the slopes of Mt. Meru near Kilimanjaro was an explorer's temptation. Weekends and holidays were spent roaming through the bush without roads and tracks, to some remote mountain or valley in search of game and other wonders.

After 7 years studying and working in the UK, Tom returned to Tanzania in 1990 to take up a position managing Tanzania Game Tracker Safaris and Ker & Downey Safaris Tanzania. These Companies had exclusive access to over 20,000 sq km of wilderness areas and operated safaris in Tanzania's National Parks and Game Reserves. The position opened the door to a new chapter of wildlife exploration and conservation. Tom was involved with the establishment and management of permanent camps in Tarangire and Serengeti National Parks and Ngorongoro Conservation Area and semi-permanent camps in numerous Game Reserves. Tom was also involved with registering an NGO in Tanzania, managing and coordinating anti-poaching and community conservation programs.

Tom moved to Texas in 1999 to work as sales and marketing manager for the group's Tanzania products. He now works as freelance guide with the family business, Equestrian Safaris Ltd., and with George Mavroudis Safaris, both in Tanzania.
