  • Description
On the shores of ‘The Lake of Stars’ (Lake Malawi) in Northern Mozambique skilled local craftsmen have constructed the spacious and secluded Nkwichi lodge. Each is a unique creation, an imaginative use of indigenous materials, built to fit in perfectly with their surroundings. All have direct access to a beach and are privately catered for.

Set in the pristine Manda Wilderness conservation area, Nkwichi Lodge offers something for all tastes, representing a true merging of luxury with adventure. The beach on the shores of the lake with its fine, white sand is the central feature around which the lodge has been built. Each of the 7 chalets and 2 houses are cleverly tucked into the trees along the lakeshore providing unique views across the crystal clear water. The chalets all vary in size and design depending on their setting but are all made of local wood, stone and grass thatch. Excellent cuisine, fine wine and lake sunsets complement perfectly a variety of activities and expeditions. Simply relax on a secluded beach or let us arrange guided trekking and bush walks in the reserve, canoeing on the lake or up the many rivers, bird and wildlife watching, snorkelling amongst the finest array of freshwater fish in the world, visits the many community projects supported at Manda Wilderness and much, much more.

The aim of The Manda Wilderness Project is to encourage local communities to create and manage their own conservation area. By providing training, helping communities to organise themselves and increasing income, the quality of life has improved drastically, wildlife numbers have started to recover from the civil war, and the community now work together as they have never done so before.
